Diamond Cut (Shapes)

A diamond cut refers to how well a diamond’s facets interact with light to give it fire, sparkle and brilliance. A diamond’s cut grade is also a crucial quality to determine the diamond’s value.

Diamond Clarity

Diamonds generally contain a myriad of internal characteristics called ‘inclusions’ and external characteristics called ‘blemishes’. Diamond clarity refers to the absence of these inclusions and blemishes. In determining a diamond’s clarity grade, a Clarity Scale is used to consider the size, nature, position, colour or relief, and quantity of clarity characteristics visible under 10× magnification. The Clarity Scale includes these grades: I.F., VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, I2 and I3.

Diamond Colours

For diamonds, the absence of colour is a quality itself. The less colour that appears on a diamond, the higher their value. The Colour Grading Scale starts with the letter D, representing a colourless quality, and continues to the letter Z based on the increasing presence of colour (which appears as light yellow or brown).

Diamond Carat

Diamonds are measured using carat which determines its weight and size. However, a diamond’s value does not depend on just its carat weight as it includes all of the 4Cs as well. Hence, two diamonds of equal carat weight will have very different values depending on three other factors of the diamond’s 4Cs: Colour, Clarity, and Cut, which also influence its price range.
