An Inspired Collection for Moments that Count

Radiant, brilliant, beautiful. Every piece from Ministry of Diamond (MOD)’s collection has been meticulously crafted to reflect a more conscious way of appreciating luxury and the finer things in life. A purveyor of lab-grown diamonds, MOD emphasizes quality every step of the way from the first seed to the diamond that you hold in your hands.

What Are Lab-Grown Diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are grown in a highly controlled laboratory environment using cutting-edge technology to replicate the natural diamond growing process. It is similar to how diamonds are formed beneath Earth’s surface where immense heat and pressure causes the formation of these stones.

At MOD, diamonds are made using the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method which harnesses plasma in a heated and gas-filled chamber to form the diamond. The growth process begins with a sliver of diamond seed. To prepare the diamond seed for growing, the seed is polished thoroughly, resulting in a smooth and crystal-clear surface

The seed is placed in a sealed chamber and heated to a very high temperature. The chamber is then filled with carbon rich-gasses which are ionized into plasma using technology akin to microwaves or lasers. This breaks the molecular bonds in the gases causing pure carbon to adhere to the diamond seed. The seed slowly crystallizes, “growing” into the diamond.

Once the newly grown diamond is ready, a highly advanced precision laser cutting device trims the stone from all sides, extracting the rough diamond from the diamond seed. From here, the rough diamond is thoroughly cleaned in preparation for final cutting and polishing. To acquire the desired shape and quality, an automated polishing device is used to contour, polish and shine the diamond into its final appearance.

Lab-Grown vs Mined Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds have the same physical and chemical properties as diamonds mined from earth. They are 100% natural diamonds, identical to mined diamonds; the only difference is how they are made.

Thanks to the advent of new technology, lab-grown diamonds offer diamond lovers an eco-friendly and conflict-free alternative to diamonds that are extracted from earth. These mined diamonds are sometimes known as “blood diamonds” because of the negative consequences that come from the mining process.

As the growth process is conducted in a highly controlled environment, diamonds grown in a lab minimize environmental degradation – for instance, no carbon emission is produced, thus Earth is protected and preserved. A sustainable choice, lab-grown diamonds also ensure safe and responsible labour practices.

At MOD, every diamond from its seed source to its final polished state is produced responsibly in the lab, thus consumers can rest assured it is 100% conflict-free. While developing the technology and resources to grow diamonds require a high initial cost, the production of lab grown diamond is less expensive than mined diamonds due to a shorter supply chain. Lab-grown diamonds are not just sustainable, their lower price range also makes them accessible to people from all walks of life and not limited to just a few.

Certification

All lab-grown diamonds sold by MOD are graded and comes with an International Gemological Institute (IGI) Certificate.
